Who likes chocolate? Who likes bacon? What about bacon chocolate? This recently arrived, accompanying a belated Christmas card. The chocolate itself smells entirely of bacon, yet as the package describes, there are "just pieces of smoked bacon and a sprinkling of Alder salt" mixed in the milk chocolate. Upon first bite, it's almost as if the sweetness of the chocolate cancels the savory of the bacon and salt, leaving a rather neutral taste; only the smooth texture of chocolate is detectable. Then as either the chocolate dissolves or as you start chewing, do the flavors start emerging. The bacon pieces are small and a little chewy, the salt pronounced. The chocolate seems to be there to just hold everything together; the taste is definitely more savory than sweet. I can't seem to form an opinion just yet, but it's interesting enough that I'd try more.
