This isn't going to be one of those sappy end-of-year recaps/holiday love fests. I usually reserve those for Christmas cards, and though I didn't write any this year, I'm not about to spill over the internet. You should all know how I feel about you, and if you don't, give me a call and I'll be happy to read you something from Hallmark.
What I will say is that my recent trip down to LA was fantastic. Some trips are rather rushed and you don't end up seeing anyone. While some people were out of town, I got a pretty good balance of visits and even squeezed a trip down to San Diego for some Phil's Phil's Phil's. As Tina pointed out, "it's huge and it's packed" (that's what she....), and the ribs definitely stood up to the hype and was well worth the drive down. Also funny was watching Stella attempt a jump kick. We really are too easily amused.
Getting the quality time to spend with friends and family really makes me miss home and the people that I love, but it also pushes me to try and meet new people here. Certainly not as a replacement, but to find that familiar warmth and comfort you get when you're with friends. For now, to those at home, I miss you, and wish the holidays lasted forever . You know who you are.

Taking Money From Idiots
I've given it a lot of thought, and I've decided that an easy way to make money in the Bay Area is to sell/repair car brakes. I've seen how people drive around here, and am certain that most people must go through brakes unusually quickly. My shop won't just be any ordinary place, labor will be charged based on driving competency and level of idiocy.
[Me]: Ma'am, it seems as you accelerate, then immediately brake, then repeat.
[Woman]: I just don't want to go too fast.
[Me]: Then accelerate only as much as you need to! I'm going to have to charge you double for labor.
[Me]: Sir, it seems as though you drive with your foot on both the brakes and the accelerator.
[Retard]: So?
[Me]: You're retarded. I'm charging you triple for labor!
[Me]: Sir, it doesn't seem like you've taken your M5 over 40mph.
[Tool]: I like to drive slowly.
[Me]: What a tool. You're paying for this month's rent and utilities.
See? Easy money. Who wants in?

None of My Beeswax
And here I thought I wouldn't have anything to blog about today. My downstairs neighbors (the very ones I've disowned), are fighting again. This happens every once in a while, the last time spanning an entire weekend and involving lots of thrown objects in the middle of the night.
I'm sitting here with the TV on pretty loudly, yet I can't seem to drown out the girlfriend screaming at the top of her lungs about how much she wishes her boyfriend would die. The rest of the comments she's making are not fit to repeat, and while I have no idea what's going on, I certainly know that no human being deserves to be spoken to like that, regardless of what they've done. At this point, I'm both impressed with how loud she can be and yet terrified of her extreme nastiness. If they break up and move out, I call dibs on their parking spot.

Sig Alert
Cause for traffic on the 101S around Monster Park this morning? Birds. Flying birds. Sure, it was a little gross to see hundreds of birds flying around. Yes, it seemed like a scene right out of Alfred Hitchcock. But do you all need to slam on the brakes and then proceed like it's a residential zone? My DMV handbook must have been missing the page about yielding to flying objects. Stupid hippies. Read the book on driving, don't just smoke it.

Dead To Me
Under what circumstances do you blatantly ignore a ringing doorbell or a knocking door? Tonight, I needed my neighbors to either move their car or let me use it to jump my very dead one. I both heard and saw that their TV was on, yet no one came to open the door. In the end, we had to put my car in neutral, push it out of my spot so that another car could come in close enough behind my neighbor's car for the jump. I won't go into how much I hate jumping cars as I'm embarrassed enough as it is, but seriously. I can hear you singing and moving around in your apartment! You're really just going to pretend like you're not home? I hope your hybrid becomes fuel-inefficient.

Show Not Tell
I mainly got the idea to start this thread shortly after my move from LA to SF. Even now, after 4 months, I still feel like a stranger to this city. I don't quite feel like I belong yet.
One of the things that bothers me most here (and there are plenty), is how people constantly tell me how crappy a place So Cal is and how I must be so happy to be in SF. Why is it necessary to put down So Cal? Can I not appreciate one city without hating the other? Unless you've actually lived in a city for some time, are you really qualified to defame it? If your city is as great as you say it is, shouldn't it shine on its own and not by (false) comparison? No one in So Cal cares, why do you?
Don't get me wrong, I'm completely open to hearing suggestions about what to do here and discovering them one by one, but do we need to be so judgmental about it? In a place that claims to be tolerant and accepting, there sure is a lot of labeling going on. Stop bitching about So Cal already and show me how great SF is!

You Spin Me Right Round
As a person who actively avoids motion sickness, you'd think I'd have enough sense not to dine in a rotating building on an empty stomach. Unfortunately, I learned that I don't have as much self-preservation as I originally thought, as I decided to have lunch at the SkyCity restaurant on top of the Space Needle. The best way to describe the rotating restaurant is that the seating area is on tracks, much like the beginning of the Haunted Mansion when you board your doom buggy. So what does that mean? That means things are moving on both sides, and there's a slight jerk when people are walking around. Translation? Instant barf feeling.
Elsewhere in the restaurant, having much more fun than I, was a gathering for the Red Hat Society - women over 50, not Linux. I've only heard about this through a former co-worker who was a member, but trust me when I say it's even more bizarre in person. As much as I wanted to point and laugh, at least they weren't sitting there with their heads on the table, in fear of hurling.

That's What She Said
It really would have been the perfect URL for this blog, but sadly, it's been taken already. OTB.

Joining the Masses
I've had the idea for this blog for a while now, but it wasn't until the insistence of one Mr. Ken Lee that I decided to actually go through with it. Though I still maintain that my life is far too boring to fuel regular blog material, I've decided to give it a try. Any bets as to how long I'll last?
Depending on how bored I get, I may even back blog on recent events. Cheating? Perhaps. But do you really care?
